Sign in to confirm you're not a bot? Have you had this error? I absolutely have. Let's dive into why...

As of perhaps the past couple of weeks, not sure if this has anything to do with the UK's Online Safety Act or my jumping into using a VPN more. I have been hit constantly with this error from YouTube stating "Sign in to confirm that you're not a bot This helps protect our community. Learn more"

Which would be fine if I actually had a way to sign in. See you can't actually get rid of this message, it just stays there. If you click Learn More it takes you to an unhelpful help thread on Googles help site. And if you click the youtube logo it takes you to YouTube.com where you are already signed in. So what gives?

This apparently stems from cross site tracking, effectively if YouTube/Google doesn't have the ability to track you across different sites, then they're going to spit the dummy out and not give you access to any of their services. I pay for premium so this is exceptionally annoying. Check whatever browser you are using, and ensure this is toggled and see if it works then.

Weirdly, if I sign into my google account, on my Chrome Browser, well what do you know it works perfectly fine! Another reason this issue has probably went so long without being noticed, is because of that. Most people use Chrome, probably also signed into it.

What's interesting is how hit and miss this is. Using the Brave browser which does all this third party site blocking and everything else. It works absolutely fine. Even on my VPN which just yesterday was giving me errors and telling me to not use a VPN.

Is something going on at YouTube? Who knows, just gives me more energy to keep working on https://streambit.tv
